Before the Moon, After the Sun
But, first.. Lone Ladder I saw this ladder and something about it drew me in, so, I went around the block and pulled into a spot that I'm not entirely sure a car was meant to go. It's simple, but I love it. A few nights ago I took some photos after dark, then out of curiosity, I followed up a few of those same photos during the day. Both sessions were cold, especially the night; the day was overcast. Christine was a '58 Plymouth Fury, but as I shot this car, I'm convinced I m

Abandoned, but Admired
Hi again! If it isn't obvious yet, I like abandoned locations. Seriously. These photos are of a place I've driven by multiple times and just never stopped. Every time, though, I've felt it calling to me.. well, to my camera, anyway. Bonus Photo! The Nerve of that Fence I have to admit that my true calling in life was likely that of an Urban Explorer, but alas, fences and locks give me pause. Anyway, If it's abandoned, forgotten, or dilapidated - it's probably on my radar. Oh!

Soft Light, Hard Edges
I have always been drawn to cemeteries. The quiet and peace, the reverence. The forgotten. I believe that we should remember. It doesn't matter if these places are aged, or that the families of the residents are long gone now too. They deserve to be remembered. A name carried forward in quiet ways. Some find cemeteries disturbing or morbid, but I find them serene and beautiful, full of angles, stone, and memory. Perhaps it is an unpopular opinion, but I feel that cemeteries s

The Jones Family: An Exploration of Leaves & Light
Welcome back, Friends! These photos come with a warning: Please mentally prepare for how absurdly adorable this gets. This tiny human brought serious leaf-crunching energy. This may be the most wholesome photoshoot I will ever do.

Stop Crying and Start Clicking
Hello my Feral Little Focus Creatures! We need to talk. How many of you eat, sleep, and breathe photography - but rarely go out and, like, actually take photos? *raises hand I'm here to personally tell you that if book, YouTube, Facebook, and ChatGPT knowledge denoted actual skill, I'd blow you all straight out of the frame with my unmatched photography prowess. But it doesn't. Apparently the Secret to Better Photos Is… Taking More Photos. Who Knew? I did a dark light photogr

You’ve Glitched into the Backrooms
Greetings again! I've been practicing my low light photography lately, and unsurprising to me, I love it. Missed the train, caught the void instead. Here's a station after reality closes. I love the emptiness of normally occupied spaces. Thanks for the visit! May the shadows treat you kindly until we meet again.

Phōs kai Skia
What is photography? Phos, light. Graphē, drawing or writing. Photography is the scientific art of creating images by drawing or writing with light. But what is photography really ? To me, the camera is the extension of the eye, the device that records, copies, and develops what the eye sees but cannot save or even adequately explain. The camera doesn't always get the vision right. But, sometimes? It develops perfectly . Light and Shadow.

Look That Defies Sight
Hey there, Photo Fiends! What's that? You want more photos from last week's shoot ?! Well, absolutely. Anything for you! I struggle with low-light photos and I hate this, because I love the way they look. I broke out the colored lights, the black backdrops, and recruited a model! There was frustration (on my part), irritation (on my part), and a vision (that I gotta confess, I considered tossing camera components). Full disclosure, friends, I took a cruise on the low-light s

Because Every Tail has a Tale
Hello, hello, Photographers! It's been a minute and I apologize. Real life (aka drudgery) took over for a bit, but I'm back at the reins! My accomplice and I had a photoshoot or two recently, and a most important part included furbabies. Who doesn't love furbabies?! Look at that Schnoz! Technically these aren't my babies, but lets be honest here, when I meet your fur-children, they might as well be mine. I'll love them and hug them and kiss them and worry about them like they

Threads That Weather Storms: Portraits of a Protector
Salutations, Photo Fam! Waaaaay back on September 5th, I wrote a post introducing my beautiful 8-legged friend . She's still hanging around! She has three egg sacks now. My understanding is that the spiderlings hatch and hang out in the sack until spring to survive the winter. I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, but I am flattered that she has chosen my home as safe haven for her babies. I snapped some more photos of the gorgeous girl. I'm here to decorate your house for

On the Road with AOx5: AI Lied, I Listened
Hi there! I asked ChatGPT for a route based on Kansas ghost towns and was given a laundry list. Apparently, KS is abandoned. So I took a few locations in the same general vicinity, threw them into Google Maps, and street-viewed the areas. Fewer postcard moments than hoped. I chose the ones that seemed to have the greatest potential, because sometimes, the road leads - not justifies. Fauxtographer and I set off. Me driving, which I think horrifies her. Can anyone tell me wtf t

AOx5 The Anita Series, Part II
Hello again, Photography Nerds! Listen. Fauxtographer and I have just done our very first collaborative photography shoot. Of a person ! I realize most people do photoshoots of people - but I don't. Or should I say I hadn't. I had so, so much fun. Fauxtographer took the lead with her posing and artistic vision and I got to circle around for the "forget I'm even here!" candids. Our debut shoot couldn’t have had a better muse—Anita brought beauty, style, and presence. Her husb
