Scotland Day 4: Last bits of Edinburgh and off to Glasgow

I always thought those hop on hop off double decker bus tours were kind of cheesy but as I’m getting older I guess my motto is becoming “might as well.” It turned out to be so fun and we got to see even more of Edinburgh before leaving this beautiful city!!
Now that I know what ‘closes’ are it made it more interesting to see the varied entrances to each.
On one of the hop off stops we came upon the Old Calton Burial Ground. I enjoy seeing graveyard styles of other countries and the Scots did not disappoint.
After the bus ride alllll over Old and New Towns we randomly chose All Bar One for a leisurely lunch - delicious!
Afterwards we strapped on our backpacks again and caught a train to Glasgow to finish out the rest of the trip.

Glasgow felt more gritty and industrial than Edinburgh but the quiet luxury made itself well known on the walk from the Botanical Gardens to Glasgow University.
Our Glasgow hotel was fine enough but just had an odd feeling to it. The elevator was only big enough for literally 2 people, the room had high ceilings and an unusually large bathroom by European standards, complete with a large tub that was quite a distance from the bathroom floor. It felt a bit precarious to get in and out of. Our room 121 should’ve been close to the elevator if it was following normalcy with the numbering system but instead it was down the hall and around the corner (which is a nightmare if you’re desperately trying to find your room because you really need to go to the bathroom). There was maybe one outlet in the entire room. I would describe the style as ‘Soviet post Cold War circa 1994 trying to make it nice for Western tourists but has never been to the West’.
We took the subway to the Botanical Gardens which were, of course, gorgeous. Unfortunately we only got to peek through the windows of the glasshouses as they were nearing closing time.
Glasgow University was a spectacular site! I cannot even fathom studying in such a beautiful place packed with centuries of history!
For dinner we chose an Andalusian restaurant. It was alright but not nearly as flavorful as the decor implied it would be.

We stopped by a Tesco after to get some nibbles to bring back to our hotel room. Along the way we saw a rather disturbing scene of a seagull trying to eat another dead bird. Also seen was the damage all the birds seem to purposefully be doing to the statues.

Glasgow - wish we could’ve experienced more of you because you seem like a crazy good time, but not sure we would've survived it!
