Harvest Time!

Wheat harvest is NOW in Kansas! Combines are out in full force, trucks lining up at the grain elevators and farmers tensely looking at weather forecasts to check if rain is on its way.

I’m not 100% a farm girl but nothing brings back nostalgia of childhood summer vacations like wheat harvest. Standing out by your car waiting for your relatives to bring back that slow, lumbering combine to the meet point so grandma can give them lunch. The air is hot and dusty and there are bugs in the car because you had to leave all the windows down. The same Tupperware and water jugs being used year after year and eventually decade after decade. Riding along to the grain elevator and the excitement of getting a free can of pop after sitting in line for what seemed like FOREVER. The low sounds of machinery in the distance getting progressively louder as it comes near until it’s a roar so intense you can’t hear the person next to you….
What peace wheat harvest brings to my Kansas soul.
